Mini bagels recipe Supplies

Large mixing Bowl: You don’t need a huge bowl but any large or mid-size bowl will get the job done. I always use glass or stainless steel bowls when I make anything because they are the most durable.

Measuring cups: Glass measuring cups are handy but as long you have measuring cups of flour you will be good to go.

Measuring spoons: My go-to spoons are my stainless steel ones and my wood set of spoons, they will both last for a while. Any measuring spoons you have on hand will work.

Sheet pan: Grab your most reliable sheet pan, or the biggest one if you’re making a big batch of this mini bagel.

Baking Sheet: Silicon baking mat or parchment paper: I love using my silicon baking mats! They save me money on parchment paper but I use parchment too.

Cooling rack: Great to cool off your mini bagel at room temperature preventing soggy bagel bottoms.

1 & 1/2 cups flour: If I’m not using gluten-free flour like almond flour then I’m always using organic flour. Organic flour is the best flour you can buy because it’s less likely to be sprayed with glyphosate (which is the main ingredient in round-up).

The best way to learn more about clean ingredients and healthy baking tips is by reading our post, Ultimate Guide to Clean Eating Desserts.

1-½ cup of extra flour: This is for spreading out when you are shaping out the mini donuts.

1 cup Plain yogurt: Either use yogurt or greek yogurt both will give the same result. My go-to yogurt is from Stonyfield’s organic probiotic plain yogurt.

1 tsp baking powder: Baking powder will help the mini bagels rise by adding gas bubbles making chewy bagels soft.

½ tsp pink Himalayan salt: You can use any salt on hand, but I always have Himalayan salt on hand so that’s what I use.

Extra Ingredients: You can use these toppings to sprinkle on your mini bagel before baking.

Storage Tips

You can store your mini bagels in plastic wrap or paper wrap for at least 3 days on your countertop. If you are using zip- loc bags to store mini bagels for the long term.

If you don’t plan to use your mini bagels in the next 3 days it’s best to freeze your mini bagels because they do not have preservatives in them to keep them from going bad.

Paper is always better than plastic when you are choosing the type of wrapping to store any bread products.

According to the USDA, you should store bread in the freezer for about 3 months. You might see a lot of others sharing that you can keep bread products in the freezer for 6 months.

Do not place your mini bagels or any bread goods in the fridge because it can help mold growth grow faster and speed up the process of staling

Avoid storing your mini bagels in a damp or warm place, and avoid placing them in direct sunlight to prevent mold from forming quickly.

Placing your bagels in a dry cool place and away from moisture is key!

Can you freeze bagels?

Freezing bagels is the preferred method of bread storage because it will prevent mold growth and keep it fresh for about 3 months per USDA.

When you freeze bagels be sure to wrap them tightly with plastic wrap. If you want double protection you can wrap aluminum foil on top of the plastic wrap. Storing them in a freezer bag is also a great option.

The ultimate goals in freezing your bagels or anything for that matter is to prevent freezer burn and avoid freezer cool air from creeping into your baked goods

Mini Bagels Recipe FAQ

Can I use all-purpose flour to make bagels?

Yes, you can use all-purpose flour to make bagels or mini bagels. I specifically recommend using organic all-purpose flour from your local grocery store.

I love organic flour from brands like. and buying in bulk.

You can make bagels with actually any type of flour as long as you have the right ingredients that will help it rise to create a soft and chewy bagel.

What yeast should I use?

I use Fleischmann’s Active Dry Yeast because it is easy to get in my local grocery site, its reliable, and is compatible with various bread dough recipes. Active dry yeast is used to make homemade bread like mini bagels and it is also gluten-free.

Whichever yeast you decide to use, simply dissolve it in warm water or you can just throw it in your baking mix without dissolving it first. Storing yeast in the fridge to keep it fresh and you can have it open in the fridge for at least 6 months.

Do you put baking soda in boiling water for bagels?

For this recipe, you do not need to place the bagels in boiling water with baking soda in them. A lot of other recipes require you to place bags in baking soda and water.

This is because boiling water with baking soda provides your bagels with a chewy consistency. In this recipe, the main ingredients are flour, baking soda, and yogurt which

Is equivalent to one teaspoon of baking powder.

Plain Yogurt provides the right acidity to make bread dough rise when combined with baking soda or baking powder.

Our recipe ingredients help bagels swell and raise creating a chewy bagel without the use of boiling water process/baking soda.

What are small bagels called?

Small bagels are called mini bagels and they are miniature bagels that are bite size. Faster to grab and an on-the-go bagel is great for people who want the satisfaction of eating a bagel while controlling the portion size.
