Healthy Raisin Oatmeal Cookies Ingredients

Most of these ingredient items might be in your kitchen pantry right now!

3 cups Organic old-fashioned oats-If you can’t find organic old fashion oats for a decent price Anthony’s Organic Oats on Amazon is a great deal!

1 cup Organic Whole-wheat flour

1 cup Raisins

4 oz melted butter– I use salted pasture-raised butter, but you can use whatever you have and hand. If needed, you can definitely switch to vegan butter.

¼ cup Organic Coconut oil (melted)-The best deal online for coconut oil is Nature’s Way Coconut Oil.

-1/2 cup 100% Maple syrup

2 Eggs – If I would choose one type of egg to bake with, it would be pastured raised eggs.

Eggs that are made from chickens that have been out on grass all day instead of a small confined space are a way healthier option for us and the life of the animal.

1 tbs Vanilla extract

1/2 tsp Himalayan pink Salt -My favorite affordable product is Spice Supreme Pure Himalayan Pink Salt, but you can use any type of salt you have on hand.

1 tsp Baking soda

1 tbs Vanilla extract

1/2 tsp Cinnamon

Other Add-ons/ins to put in Oatmeal cookies

To make your cookies unique you can also experiment with this recipe and fun add-ins! Mix and matching other add-ins is also a great way to entertain guests or create fun baking activities for your family.

Dehydrated Fruit

Dried bananas, strawberries, mangoes, apples, blueberries, cranberries can be added to give your cookies a fruity taste.

Fresh Fruit

If you don’t have dried fruit to add to your cookies, fresh fruit is also a great option cranberries, and blueberries are the most popular!

Currently, I’m loving my MacGill dehydrator and I am having a lot of success drying my own fruit, and love to play around with dry fruit options when baking.

Flaxseed

A healthier option like the fruit is flaxseed. Flaxseed can be added into your cookies more fiber, omega 3’s, and overall more additional nutrients.

Sugar-free Chocolate drizzle

Get creative and create a different flavor by using white chocolate, dark chocolate, or semi-sweet chocolate drizzle on top of your oatmeal cookies.

Chocolate is always a good idea! My favorite brand of sugar-free chocolate is Lily’s Milk Baking Chips By Stevia Sweetened.

Sprinkles

Sprinkles are great for holiday baking, birthdays, special occasion, or just because you want sprinkles!

Nuts

Skies the limit if you want to add nuts! Peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and almonds are great options to choose from when you want a little more crunch in your oatmeal cookies.

Candy

Last but not least, you can add various candies to add a sweet taste and fun toppings if your baking with kids.

What kind of oats are best for cookies?

Rolled Oats (Old fashion oats) and quick oats are two types of oats that are frequently used in oatmeal cookies.

Both are high in fiber, have many great vitamins and minerals, and are a great plant-based protein.

The best oats for cookies are organic oats, as they are low in glyphosate (the main ingredient in round-up).

Glyphosate is a weed killer and herbicide that is sprays on all non-organic oats in big commercial farms in order for farmers to harvest in a timely manner.

According to EWG.org, “they test conventionally grown oars and detected 28 samples that all but two of the 28 samples had glyphosate above EWG’s health benchmark of 160 parts per billion, or ppb.”

To learn more about what is exactly being sprayed on oats that are conventionally grown, the video below is a great resource.

If you buy organic oats you can help yourself from exposure to any amounts of pesticides.

Learning more about how to be safe and health-conscious with your baking by finding ways to ways to make your desserts healthier. is also super helpful.

How can I make oatmeal taste better without sugar?

You can make oatmeal taste better without sugar by replacing sugar with natural sweeteners.

Some examples of natural sweeteners are honey, maple syrup, agave, monk fruit sweetener, bananas, applesauce, or different types of extracts like almond extract.

Is an oatmeal cookie healthy?

Compared to the traditional chocolate chip cookie made with unbleached flour and tons of highly processed sugar, I would say an oatmeal cookie is a healthier option.

The various ingredient will make oatmeal cookies healthier if you use flour like almond flour, coconut flour. Whole wheat flour has at least some nutritional value compared to unbleached flour.

The use of coconut oil and all-natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup keep oatmeal recipes on the healthier side.

Our cookie recipe includes 3 cups rolled oats, which provide great protein and fiber!

How bad are oatmeal raisin cookies for you?

Any type of cookie is not really considered a healthy food, but considering what other cookies are made out of, oatmeal cookies are not that bad.

Like all oatmeal cookies recipes, it really depends on the ingredients you use.

Depending on your lifestyle and diet, oatmeal cookies can accommodate a healthy diet.

When an individual is on a special diet like vegan, keto, dairy-free, and gluten-free they can use a dessert-like an oatmeal cookie to satisfy their sweet tooth without jeopardizing the way they eat.
